Hudson Taylor- His last

This, I am sorry to say, is the last blog I will be doing, at least for now on Hudson Taylor. His life should be an example to us all. God called him to establish a mission in the heart of China and he obeyed, even when it cost him the lives of those dear to him he still trusted God.

When Hudson was in England he married Jane (Jennie) Faulding, a fellow missionary. They returned to China in 1872, though they were forced to return to England only 3 years later as a result of the Children's caretaker, Emily Blatchley, dying. In the winter of 1874/1875 ( while still in China), Hudson had practically paralyzed himself falling off a riverboat. He then wrote an confident appeal for 18 new workers to join them.

When he at last recovered his strength, Hudson sailed for China while Jennie stayed with the children in England. In 1876 he reached China along with the 18 requested missionaries. In 1876-1877 he travled throughout inland China establishing mission stations. He was able to do this with the signing of the Cheffoo Convention, a agreement between Britain and China allowing missionary work to take place legally.

Hudson Taylor returned to England for a short time in 1883 to recruit more missionaries. When he got back to China he was working with 225 missionaries and 59 churches. IN 1887 the number increased by another 100 missionaries. He travled and spoke in many places, including the U.S.A. The Boxer rebellion was a tough time for Hudson and the China Inland Mission killed many of C.I.M.'s workers 58 missionaries, 21 children were killed in the uprising.

Due to Health issues Hudson remained in Switzerland with Jennie and in 1902 he formally resigned. In 1904 Jennie Taylor died of cancer and he returned to China for the final time(it was his 11th trip to China). There he visited different cities before dying at his home in Changsha. He was buried next to Maria Dyer, his first wife, and his headstone reads as follows.
